The Latest on the Oil Spill


February 24, 2011: Licensees have another opportunity to file claims for damages     
After months of negotiations between Florida Realtors and representatives from the Gulf Coast Claims Facility (GCCF), oil spill czar Ken Feinberg has reversed his decision to not pay real estate licensees for losses related to residential transactions as a result of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

 

Real Estate Recovery Fund claims deadline has passed     
Nov. 23, 2010, was the deadline to file a claim through the emergency real estate fund for lost income or lost transactions during the time period April 20 through July 31. After that date, no new claims will be accepted for the emergency real estate fund.

Fishing: NOAA extended the boundaries of the closed fishing area in the Gulf of Mexico to the state water line in Alabama and the western tip of Florida’s Panhandle. Health: The Department of Health and DEP are monitoring health and environmental impacts to Florida’s beaches and will notice an advisory if conditions become unsafe. PDF updates are available at the DEP website.
