Florida Open House April 10-11



What Florida Realtors need to know about the Florida Open House Weekend
Picture this: On March 26-27, 2011, more than 50,000 blue balloons featuring the Realtor® logo will be flying above mailboxes at open houses from the Panhandle to Key West. It’s all part of the second annual statewide open house weekend! From the east coast to the west coast, the signature blue balloons will showcase thousands of open houses in the Sunshine State. It’s a buyer’s dream!

The timing couldn’t be better for buyers. Interest rates are low. There’s a supply of homes at all price points. And the Florida Open House Weekend happens at the height of the spring home selling season. Take time now to prime move-up and first-time buyers to go to contract.

Florida Realtors’ Role
Your state association will provide balloons FREE OF CHARGE to local boards/associations for distribution to brokers. Also, Florida Realtors is producing an array of marketing materials — event logos, radio/audio files, customizable media releases, artwork for yard signs and more — to help you promote the event to colleagues and consumers.

How to Get Involved
There are a variety of ways you can help make Florida’s Open House Weekend a huge success:

Use these tools to help build excitement and participation among Realtors for Florida’s second annual statewide Open House Weekend.

  • Balloons. Florida Realtors provides each association with an ample supply of balloons (we figure three per open house) FREE OF CHARGE. We’re reaching out to brokers, asking them to contact their local association for balloons. Ask members to only use the balloons during the Florida Open House Weekend, and to attach the balloons to open house signs, mailboxes, front porches and so forth.

  • Graphics. We developed a variety of graphics for your websites, emails and print products.

We’ve also provided a version to use in print publications (advertisements and classified ads listing the open houses sponsored by your members).


  • Media Releases.

  • Promote the event on the radio. Use this free MP3 audio download to promote the event on the radio. We’ve produced this radio spot – "Come Open Doors  to Your Dreams" – that can be customized with your board/association name at the end. Many stations will record the message free of charge since you’re buying airtime. Not planning a media buy? Attach the MP3 file, as is, to emails to customers and clients. Play the audio to kick off a board meeting. You can also customize this radio spot and send to clients and customers via email or include the audio on your company website.


  • Other ideas. Here are additional ways to promote the Florida Open House Weekend in your area:

  1. Partner with local businesses and your Chamber of Commerce. Need helium to inflate balloons? Allow area florists, supermarkets and dive shops to promote their businesses in exchange for providing helium tanks.
  2. Direct the public to your IDX to view houses that will be open over the weekend.
  3. Print an insert in your local paper that lists open houses in your area. Use the artwork provided by Florida Realtors.
  4. Highlight the weekend in your social media posts (Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn).
  5. Hold a contest among brokerages to see who can get the most Realtors to participate.
  6. Hold a contest for consumers. For example, you could provide cards they would get stamped at each open house they attend. Have a drawing among those who received the most stamps.

  • Open house. Consider which listing(s) you wish to promote during the Open House Weekend March 26-27, 2011.

  • Balloons. Consumers will be encouraged to look for the blue balloons signaling homes participating in the Florida Open House Weekend. Florida Realtors provides a large quantity of balloons to every local board/association in the state. Contact your local association to arrange for balloons.

  • Post a sign. Create more awareness of your open houses by printing inexpensive yard signs. We’ve created sign artwork in two sizes: 24x18-inch and 18x12-inch. Download the PDFs and take them to your local sign company.

  • Educate prospective buyers about the home buying process.

  • Start speading the news about the Florida Open House Weekend on your Facebook, Twitter and other social media pages, company website, email signature, and in print ads. Or send a media release to your local newspaper. Download these materials:
