Mandatory Code of Ethics Training
Mandatory ethics training requirements for new and continuing Realtor members was established by the National Association’s Board of Directors at the 1999 Annual Convention and went into effect for all active Realtor members Jan. 1, 2001.  The policy dictates that all active members must take a code of ethics class once every four years.  This is called the ‘quadrennial ethics requirement’.  We are currently in the FOURTH quadrennial cycle, which runs from Jan. 1, 2012 through Dec. 31, 2016.  Every active realtor member must take an ethics class sometime within this four year cycle.

What does this mean to you?  As an active Realtor member, you must take a code of ethics class sometime between Jan. 1, 2012 and Dec. 31, 2016.  Tracking and uploading of your attendance in a Code of Ethics program is handled by your local board or association.  Failure to meet the mandate is a violation of your membership requirements and will result in suspension of membership until the requirement is met or until membership is automatically terminated.

Please check our online Education Calendar to see where Code of Ethics classes are being offered throughout the state.  In addition, you may wish to check with your local board or association to see when they will be offering the program locally in your area.

Important information: If you have taken New Member training during a four-year cycle, you are not required to meet the Realtor Code of Ethics Training requirement during the same four-year cycle. The types of educational formats that are acceptable for taking the mandated Realtor Code of Ethics training is dependent upon each local board and association policy.  Please check with your local board or association to learn about their local requirements.
