What Has FAR Done?
Plenty! Here are a few of the things the Florida Association of Realtors® (FAR) is doing to help solve the insurance crisis.
- 2006 FAR President Mike Dooley, broker of Dooley Realty Inc. in Miami, and FAR’s Vice President of Public Policy, John Sebree, accompany Florida Governor Jeb Bush and his insurance team to meet with Lloyd’s of London and other reinsurers.
Goal: Open up the reinsurance market.
- FAR participates in three insurance coalitions, along with insurance agents, home builders, bankers, apartment managers and mortgage companies.
Goal: Offer solutions to the Legislature and state insurance commissioners that take into account business interests.
- FAR works with Gov. Bush’s staff to appoint Florida Realtors® to the Governor’s Insurance Reform Committee.
Goal: To ensure that housing market interests are represented in the 2007 legislation concerning Citizens Property Insurance Corporation.
- FAR keeps pressure on the National Association of Realtors® to advance national disaster insurance legislation in Congress. In September, Sebree accompanied Kevin McCarty, Florida’s insurance commissioner, to Washington, D.C., to update Florida Congressional staff on statewide insurance issues and the need for a comprehensive federal policy to plan for, mitigate the effects of, and recover from, natural disasters.
