Engage All the Senses!
Showcasing a home should involve all the senses, says Barbara Lovell, sales associate with Coldwell Banker’s Blue Mountain Beach office in the Panhandle. “Soft lights can add a warm glow to the room,” she says. “Play gentle, relaxing music. Light a scented candle or buy an aromatherapy diffuser with natural oils. It’s all part of making the buyer feel welcome.”
Lovell also suggests having thick, fluffy towels in the bath and hand towels in the kitchen that invite the buyer’s touch. And when she hosts an open house, she takes along foods for her family’s dinner and cooks them in the kitchen. “Chopping up spices or cooking a stew gets that nice aroma going throughout the house,” she says. “It’s especially helpful when the kitchen is the focal point of the home. You always want to accentuate the home’s most positive features. That’s what makes the difference in the time it takes to sell a home and the final sales price.”
