Rockin’ Realtors Realtor® by Day, Rock Star by Night
“I bought my mother a Simon & Garfunkel album for Christmas and ended up listening to it constantly,” says Ken Gettinger of Sea Sotheby’s International Realty in Miramar Beach. Thus began his quest for stardom.
Gettinger plays guitar and sings with local bands at popular nightclubs around Destin and Fort Walton Beach. His current band, The Black Eyed Blonde—named after a Red Hot Chili Peppers song—is the house band at AJ’s, one of Destin’s hottest venues. “This club has a mix of 21- to 60-year-olds, so we start about 9 p.m. and try to cater our first set to the [older] crowd and build on it from there. And, of course we get requests for ‘Free Bird’ almost nightly,” he jokes. One-Man Jam Session
There are doers like Gettinger (left) and self-proclaimed dreamers, like Jess McClellan (above with members of the band KISS), broker/president of HomeSense Realty Corp. in Tampa. He’s played music since he was a 10-year-old boy growing up in Michigan, but he’s not willing to give up his day job.
The self-taught musician plays drums, sings, writes and is content recording his own music.
He turned one room of his house into a “man cave” complete with all the recording gear he needs to create CDs of his original music. A few times a week, “I shut the door and play my drums. It’s a hobby,” says McClellan, whose favorite bands are KISS and Motley Crue to name a few.
