Fla. A.G. Bondi: $60M more available for housing

Florida Realtors Mid-Winter Meetings

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi will talk with Realtors next week at the association’s Mid-Winter Meetings, during the Legislative & Political Forum on Friday, Jan. 25, 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., in the Renaissance Orlando Resort. For more information, visit floridarealtors.org.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Jan. 18, 2013 – Part of Florida’s mortgage settlement from the nation’s five largest mortgage servicers will be divided and used to fund housing-related activities, according to Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi.

Bondi says the Legislative Budget Commission approved disbursement of $60 million from the settlement. Of that amount, $35 million will go to for downpayment assistance through the Florida Housing Finance Corporation. An additional $10 million will pay for housing counseling.

In addition, $5 million goes to state courts to help with foreclosure-related issues; $5 million will help fund legal aid programs; and $5 million reimburses the Attorney General’s Office for costs and funds future efforts to correct foreclosure abuses.

“I am proud that by working with the Legislature. We have ensured that the settlement funds go to the people who need it most – Florida’s homeowners,” says Bondi.

Florida has additional money from the bank settlement, and the Florida Legislature will determine how to divide it during its upcoming session.
