Real estate brokers report unseasonably high interest among shoppers

SEATTLE – Jan. 22, 2013 – There is growing evidence that home shoppers are on the hunt in many parts of the country, notably during a normal yearly slow season.

Coldwell Banker, for example, recently said that its listing site traffic climbed 38 percent in the last month versus year-ago levels. ZipRealty, meanwhile, notes that its website has seen an unusual 33 percent spike in home shoppers during the first half of January compared to the month before.

Redfin determined that, even during the week of Dec. 30, the number of shoppers requesting home tours increased 26 percent over the four-week average and 9 percent year over year.

Additionally, the National Association of Realtors says that foot traffic at home listings was higher in December than it was a year earlier in more than 50 percent of all markets.

“People have finally figured out that prices are moving up, interest rates are really low, and they don’t want to miss out on the opportunity,” says Right Trac Financing Group President Joe Petrowsky.
