Code of Ethics 100 years old but still growing

SAN FRANCISCO – Nov. 13, 2013 – The Realtor® Code of Ethics now affirms that the right to buy or rent a home should not be abridged based on gender identity. A resolution passed in 2011 offered protection based on sexual orientation.

“As we celebrate 100 years of the Realtor Code of Ethics, this decision is a fitting example of the Code as a living, dynamic set of principles that define the professionalism that Realtors bring to the real estate transaction,” says NAR President Steve Brown.

“Realtors subscribe to NAR’s strict Code of Ethics as a condition of membership. NAR adopted its Code of Ethics in 1913 and was only the second trade or business group in the U.S. to adopt mandatory ethical standards. I am proud to assume the presidency of an organization that provides such leadership in the area of professionalism and ethics.”

More information about the Code of Ethics is posted on NAR’s website.
