Need up-to-date legal information? Get it here

By Meredith Caruso

July 17, 2017 – Concerned about risk management and agents' liability? Do you want the most up-to-date legal information? There are several informative sessions taking place at the 2017 Florida Realtors Convention & Trade Expo, and they're free as part of convention registration ($150 through July 17).

The sessions are a great, economical way to stay on top of current trends and earn continuation education (CE) credits toward license renewal. I'll cover the Thursday events in the next edition of Florida Realtors Legal News. Here are the Wednesday, Aug. 16, classes. (Note: Some class schedules overlap, so prepare wisely.)

  • The ADA & Commercial Real Estate Properties
This course offers commercial Realtors, property managers and attorneys insights into recognizing non-compliance property issues. Learn about implementation plans that help prevent disruptive lawsuits, as a property in litigation can rarely be sold. It also focuses on accessibility – how it pays dividends and makes good business sense. This class, led by Cindy Chandler, provides 4 hours of CE credit.
  • Rental Property Security Deposits, FAQs & Florida Law
Another Wednesday session focuses on rental security deposits and general Florida law regarding landlord and tenant issues. This class focuses on legal and practical procedures, and offers tips and tricks to minimize liability and disputes early on so they don't lead to expensive, time-consuming litigation or FREC complaints. This class, led by Harry Heist, provides 3 hours of CE credit.
  • Core Law – Avoiding the Danger Zone
A Core Law option isn't designed to make participants legal experts but rather help them identify and understand legal issues that arise. This material will also provide a "red flag notice" so participants can tell when they're potentially going into a danger zone – the unlicensed practice of law. The class, led by Peter Pike, provides 3 hours of Core Law credit.

Be sure to take advantage of these courses!

And don't forget "Live from the Legal Hotline"
Meet some of the lawyers who answer the phone on Florida Realtors Legal Hotline, a free member benefit. It's an opportunity to ask our association attorneys questions face-to-face and takes place all day in the Sebastian foyer.
