Doesn’t make sense to shut down sugar in an energy crisis

Doesn’t make sense to shut down sugar in an energy crisis

Editor,

Unbelievable. The United States is currently faced with a fuel crisis that threatens our way of life as well as our national security. We’re desperately searching for alternate bio-fuel capabilities and we have the nation’s No. 1 sugar manufacturer going out of business?

As we all know, Brazil has been using sugar cane as a bio-fuel resource for decades, and it is eight times more effective than corn-based ethanol. They are now completely fossil fuel independent.

Instead of buying this land for ecological purposes, we should be focusing on it as a resource opportunity to get our country out of the largest economic challenge that we’ve faced since the Great Depression. Corn-based ethanol is not the answer… sugar-based bio-fuel is a much better way to go, and we’re not even considering it.

Unbelievable!
