Florida Realtors take center stage at GOP convention

ORLANDO, Fla. – Oct. 22, 2007 – For the 3,000 delegates who attended the Florida Republican Party’s two-day Presidency IV convention in Orlando this past weekend, there was no question that Florida Realtors were on the scene.

The Florida Association of Realtors® (FAR), whose members are pushing the Republican-led Legislature to enact property reform legislation, promoted its cause with a display in the lobby of the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort, and adorned banners, signs and campaign literature with the Realtor logo. FAR is also a major sponsor of the Florida Democratic Party convention this coming weekend at Walt Disney World’s Yacht & Beach Club.

“Florida Realtors are in the trenches with the Florida Cabinet and Legislature on key issues facing the state – property taxes and insurance – and we’re working with Congress on passage of a national disaster insurance program,” says John Sebree, vice president of public policy for the 150,000-member trade group. “Being a major sponsor of events such as these ensures we’ll remain at the forefront of the discussions.”

FAR officers, RPAC Trustees and dozens of other Realtors were seen throughout the two-day convention, which culminated with a live debate among eight Republican candidates: Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney; former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani; former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson; Arizona Sen. John McCain; Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee; and Reps. Duncan Hunter of California, Ron Paul of Texas and Tom Tancredo of Colorado.
