Your new online pal? Your Realtor

LAKELAND, Fla. – June 25, 2009 – More and more real estate professionals are using Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and other social networking sites to stay in the public eye. They say these Internet destinations offer networking opportunities and allow them to discuss local news and events.

“They’ll be more apt to read your feeds if you’re not just advertising all the time,” says Gate Arty of Lakeland, Fla.-based Keller Williams Realty. “I think when we’re contacted about selling a home, it’s not just about that, it’s about selling the community as well.”

Some agents note that email blasting has become less effective due to spam filters, and they believe Facebook will help them reach out to clients. The Florida Association of Realtors has Facebook [http://www.floridarealtors.org/facebook]  and Twitter [http://www.floridarealtors.org/twitter ] pages and uses its member magazine and online newsletter to talk about social media tools.
