Homeowner vacancies decline

WASHINGTON – July 28, 2009 – The percentage of empty privately owned U.S. homes fell in the second quarter to 2.5 percent from 2.7 percent in the January-through-March period, and from a record 2.9 percent at the end of last year.

At the same time, housing inventory appears to have peaked, although it remains well above normal levels.
