BABY BOOMER OPEN HOUSE

Sullivan Group Real Estate Advisors President Tim Sullivan says baby boomers will have a major impact on the housing market during the next two decades, as becoming empty nesters and caring for aging parents play a role in what types of homes they want and where they live. A new report from the National Association of Home Builders estimates that 370,000-plus housing starts in 2007 will be geared toward households headed by individuals aged 55 and up – a segment that makes up 21 percent of new-home sales. The impact that baby boomers have on the healthcare industry, meanwhile, will spark partnerships between builders and healthcare providers, resulting in new homes with embedded healthcare services, according to the association.
