CALLING ALL STATE LAWMAKERS?

Governor Charlie Crist said he might consider calling a special session of the Florida Legislature to deal with the state’s budget deficit. According to Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink, Florida faces a potential $1 billion-plus shortfall in this budget year. Last week, Rep. Ray Sansom, the incoming House speaker, said he didn’t anticipate the need for a special session. But Governor Crist said today that he would be open to the possibility. “I think we all care a great deal about the economy, and I certainly do,” Crist said. “And I think that we’re going to be looking at some proposals that might be able to help some of our people as it relates to foreclosure issues and things of that nature. And we just want to go forward in a positive fashion and help the people of Florida.”
