NAR: CAN WE TALK?

Charles McMillan, a 20-year veteran of the real estate industry, has assumed the position of president of the National Association of Realtors, becoming the first African-American to hold the group’s top post. Under McMillan’s leadership, NAR will launch a syndicated talk-radio show, “Real Estate Today,” that will focus on numerous issues of interest to buyers and sellers. Additionally, the organization plans to roll out a Web site dedicated to educating would-be homeowners. Meanwhile, McMillan says Realtors are not responsible for the housing crisis. “We can advise people (not to extend themselves too far to buy a home), but … even if we advise them not to do something, if someone tells them they can do it, that’s a pretty strong draw,” he explained during his first press conference.
