Charlie Crist. The boost will enable 77 counseling agencies and organizations across the state to provide foreclosure counseling. The funds also will allow legal services groups to counsel area homeowners at risk of foreclosure.
 
NAR: New Fed plan will drive down interest rates and help stabilize housing
WASHINGTON – Nov. 26, 2008 – Calling it great news for homebuyers, home sellers and the U.S. economy, the National Association of Realtors® (NAR) praised a plan announced yesterday by the Federal Reserve. Under the plan, the Fed will purchase housing-related debts of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, thus freeing up mortgage money on Main Street. The U.S. House Ways and Means Committee is considering legislation that would end the IRS practice of classifying mortgage debt forgiven in a foreclosure as taxable income. Panel Chairman Charles Rangel scheduled a committee vote on the legislation for tomorrow and spokesman Matthew Beck says the New York Democrat hopes to win broad bipartisan support for the bill.
