Homebuyers must be protected against mortgage lending abuses but still have access to affordable mortgages, NAR said yesterday as it expressed Realtors’ support for the Mortgage Reform and Anti-Predatory Lending Act of 2009.

Next week, Sept. 14-20, is Realtor Safety Week. Realtors interact frequently with people they don’t know, sometimes in isolated areas. As part of Safety Week, Realtors can attend seminars and receive training to learn tactics for avoiding high-risk situations and dealing with unexpected dangers.
 
Realtors go green
WASHINGTON – Sept. 5, 2008 – The National Association of Realtors (NAR) has introduced a Green designation for Realtors.
 
NAR: $5,000 TO NEFAR HOUSING PROGRAM
NAR awarded $39,500 to 13 local and state Realtor associations through its Housing Opportunity Fund grants program, including a Jacksonville effort. The Northeast Florida Association of Realtors received $5,000 to enhance their Home Ownership Made Easy (HOME) program, which works with employers to create an employer-assisted housing benefit.
 
SMART GROWTH
NAR awarded the Hernando County Association of Realtors $1,642 to produce a series of workshops on affordable housing and smart growth – the only Florida state association to receive funds from the national association’s Smart Growth Action Grants program. A total of $48,262 was awarded to 13 local and state Realtor associations.
 
NAR Advances plan for property database
WASHINGTON – May 20, 2008 – The National Association of Realtors® (NAR) Board of Directors took a strategic leap, authorizing the association to work with a technology company to create a broker-controlled national repository, or “library,” of property data that would provide members-only access to detailed information on all properties in the United States. The repository, which NAR is calling a “digital library/archive,” would be revenue neutral but could eventually be fee-based to cover operating costs.

WASHINGTON – Jan. 10, 2008 – National Association of Realtors® (NAR) President Dick Gaylord announced details of NAR’s 2008 Public Awareness campaign, saying it will “give consumers the facts about the long-term value of real estate and current market conditions to balance the sometimes incomplete and sensational information presented in the national media.” The formal campaign launch occurs Monday.
