NAR Launches Guides for Moving, VA Home Loans

New resources by the National Association of Realtors make moving easier with smart packing tips and help veterans navigate the VA Home Loan Guaranty to buy a home.

ORLANDO, Fla. — Buying a home and preparing for a move just got a little easier, thanks to two new Consumer Guides from the National Association of Realtors®. One breaks down the VA Home Loan Guaranty, a benefit that helps veterans and service members achieve homeownership with unique financial advantages, while the other offers 10 smart tips to simplify packing and reduce stress on moving day.

The What is the VA Home Loan Guaranty? guide explains how VA loans differ from conventional loans, including loan limits and eligibility guidelines. It also answers the question, “Why should I use a real estate agent to help me with the purchase?”

“Veterans and active-duty service members often have unique needs. Agents who are Realtors®, members of the National Association of Realtors, are there to help you meet those needs when you buy or sell a home. They're your expert guide through one of life's most impactful financial transactions. And many Realtors have obtained NAR’s Military Relocation Professional (MRP) certification to better prepare them to work with VA buyers. The VA Home Loan Program Reform Act, signed into law this year, aims to permanently end a VA rule that prevented veterans from paying their agents. The law helps ensure VA buyers can compete on equal terms in today’s housing market,” the guide states.

The 10 Tips for Packing Smartly for a Move guide offers practical strategies to make one of the most stressful parts of buying or selling a home more manageable. Suggestions include setting aside enough time — at least a week for a three-bedroom house — and working from least to most: “Pack up the least-used rooms first and pat yourself on the back. Leave the kitchen, bedding and main bathroom for last,” the guide advises.

As with all of the other Consumer Guides in the NAR series, this newest guide focuses on ensuring customers have the tools they need to make informed choices and highlights the value of working with a Realtor®.

The guides can be printed as handouts. Most are available in English and Spanish. NAR’s resources can also be viewed at facts.Realtor.
