Using Fall Touch-Ups to Draw Buyers
A fall refresh with seasonal decor can add instant curb appeal. Sellers should view their entryway with a buyer's eye to present a desirable lifestyle.
NEW YORK — With summer winding down, now is the ideal time to update porches and entryways to capture buyers’ attention.
Designers say even small repairs, such as fixing cracked steps, repainting trim or replacing torn cushions, can prevent buyers from assuming the rest of the home is poorly maintained.
"A buyer who instantly sees issues will assume the rest of the home is as unkempt and in disrepair," says Andrea Thompson, interior decorator and home organizer at Drea Design Services.
Seasonal decor from wreaths and vines to textured rugs and warm lighting can create a welcoming first impression. However, experts caution against over-personalization or heavy-handed holiday displays.
“No extreme, personal favorite colors. No out-there artistic or design choices. Remember, neutral but creative always wins,” Thompson said.
Lindsay Fanali, strategic real estate adviser at Real Estate Bees, says that sellers should aim to present a desirable lifestyle that allows buyers to imagine themselves in the space.
Before listing, homeowners are encouraged to view their entryway with a buyer's eye. The space should invite people in and set the tone for the rest of the showing.
