AI Use Now Key to Staying Competitive
Artificial intelligence streamlines tasks like emails, reports and listing copy. Agents who ignore these tools may fall behind peers who use them well, an expert said.
NEW YORK — Artificial intelligence (AI) changes how real estate professionals work, but it will not replace them, Kevin Hawkins, president of Wav Group Communications and author of The Real AI Guide for Real Estate Agents, said in Inman.
Agentic AI, for instance, will eventually be able to read and organize emails, as well as draft responses, but agents will still need to provide the human connection. Repetitive tasks can be automated, content creation can be streamlined and other processes can be sped up to save time.
Hawkins says that data analysis and valuation models have already used AI, but agents need to take care with any AI-based tool. Agents should be double-checking what is produced and use AI to support their work.
Agents can use AI tools to summarize inspection reports or write listing copy, but they need to infuse these reports and listings with a personal touch and ensure their judgment about the market and the home listed are included, he said.
"It’s like QuickBooks. It’s like Excel. It has limitations, and it has capabilities. But if you’re not using it the right way, you’re going to make a big mistake," he cautions.
Buyers and sellers are looking for agent expertise, and agents who fail to adopt AI and harness its capabilities could be pushed out of the market by their competition.
