Old-School Marketing That Still Delivers

Even in a tech-driven market, referrals, integrity and consistent follow-up keep agents thriving. Experts say blending tradition with tech drives success.

NEW YORK — As technology and artificial intelligence dominate industry conversations, seasoned agents say traditional marketing tactics remain just as powerful.

With 2025 projected to see fewer home sales than previous years, building real relationships continues to separate top producers from the rest.

“The best agents in 2026 will blend old school marketing strategies with new tools to amplify rather than replace the human touch. Master the basics, lead with integrity, and you’ll thrive no matter what the market does in 2026,” trainer Bernice Ross said in Inman.

Referrals still lead the way, with 40% of buyers finding their agents through friends or family, according to NAR’s 2025 Generational Trends Report. Experts recommend agents engage in consistent communication, local visibility through events or sponsorships and a focus on integrity.

Maintaining strong knowledge of local inventory, following up after showings and conducting post-closing surveys to generate reviews also strengthen credibility.

While AI tools can streamline workflows, the fundamentals of trust, communication and service still drive business growth. Agents who combine traditional relationship-building with smart technology will be best positioned to succeed in 2026’s shifting market.
