Florida #1 in U.S. for Economy
The state ranked No. 3 overall in CNBC’s 2025 Top States for Business, earning high marks for its workforce and other key strengths.
NEW YORK – A recent list ranking America's Top States for Business 2025 shows Florida as having the number one economy in the United States.
While also getting high marks for its workforce, the Sunshine State ranked lower Business Friendliness (#23), Cost of Doing Business (#22) and Quality of Life (#22). Those rankings pushed it to #3 in the nation.
The best state for business, according to a CNBC analysis of factors like workforce, infrastructure and business-friendliness, is North Carolina, which ranked high for economy (#3) and #4 for being friendly to businesses.
In its analysis of the ranking, CNBC said "the state's gross domestic product grew by a healthy 3.7% last year, the fifth strongest in the country. The state added more than 60,000 jobs last year."
Amazon will be investing $10 billion to build new data centers in North Carolina, on top of the $12 billion the company says it has invested in the state since 2010, according to CNBC.
In addition to scoring all 50 States on 135 metrics in 10 broad categories of competitiveness, this year it added metrics to gauge the states' risks from a trade war and a shrinking federal budget.
CNBC's top 10 spots are dominated by the South and Midwest:
1. North Carolina
2. Texas
3. Florida
4. Virginia
5. Ohio
6. Michigan
7. Georgia
8. Tennessee
