HUD/VA Award $16M to Help Homeless Veterans
Three Fla. agencies will receive a total of $1,360,910, ranging from $29,824 for Citrus County to $1,262,250 for the Sarasota Housing Authority.
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) awarded $16.1 million in HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) vouchers to 71 Public Housing Agencies (PHAs) across the country.
This award will help homeless veterans and their families find and sustain permanent housing. HUD has a complete list of recipients (Excel format) that can be downloaded from its website.
“These vouchers will help us get homeless veterans and their families off the streets and into affordable housing,” says HUD Secretary Marcia L. Fudge. “This investment represents our commitment to making veteran homelessness a thing of the past.”
The HUD-VASH program provides housing and an array of supportive services to veterans experiencing homelessness by combining rental assistance from HUD with case management and clinical services provided by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Joint efforts – HUD, VA, and the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH) – have decreased the number of homeless veterans by 11% since early 2020, according to HUD, the “most significant decline in more than five years.”
