Deadlines Looming For Hurricane Claims
Florida law allows one year to start a storm claim. Helene deadline is Sept. 26, 2025. Milton deadline is Oct. 9, 2025. Supplemental claims get 18 months.
TAMPA, Fla. — If you suffered hurricane damage last year, you need to be aware of two important deadlines. If you have not yet started a claim, time is of the essence.
Florida's Office of Insurance Regulation reported more than 436,000 claims were filed as a result of the storm.
If you suffered hurricane damage, it's not too late to file your claim, but time is running out. Florida law gives you a year from the date of damage to initiate your claim.
For loss resulting from Hurricane Helene, the deadline is Sept. 26. The deadline to file claims resulting from Hurricane Milton is Oct. 9.
This doesn't just apply to homes.
If your suffered vehicle damage as a result of the storms and have comprehensive auto coverage, these deadlines apply to you, too.
Once the initial claim is filed, you have 18 months from the date of loss to file a supplemental claim for overlooked damages that are discovered after initial repairs.
