Park, record, post: Make downtime work

A few parked minutes between appointments can become useful social content that showcases expertise, answers common questions and keeps agents visible.

Realtors® spend plenty of time in their cars between showings, inspections and appointments. Some of that downtime can double as content-creation time – as long as the car is parked.

Short, casual videos recorded immediately after a real estate appointment can give agents a simple way to share useful information without a studio, complicated editing or a carefully written script, Paige Brown, managing editor, blog/social media for RISMedia, said.

The key is capturing an observation while the experience is still fresh. An agent leaving an inspection, for example, could share a common issue that came up and explain what buyers should know. After an offer presentation, an agent might talk about one strategy that helped the offer stand out.

RISMedia recommends keeping videos short, ideally under 45 seconds, and building them around three parts:

  • Set the scene: Briefly explain where you are or what just happened.
  • Share one takeaway: Give viewers one useful tip, lesson or observation.
  • Invite conversation: End with a simple question that encourages viewers to respond.

The videos don't need extensive production. In fact, the casual setting can make them feel more like a conversation than an advertisement. Brown recommended using a secure phone mount positioned near eye level and taking advantage of natural light and don't try to film while driving.

“Immediate, unscripted reactions carry natural energy and authenticity,” Brown said.

There is one important rule: Record only while safely parked.
