Sweet ways to turn Halloween into connections
Nextdoor’s Halloween Treat Map gives real estate agents a fun way to connect with neighbors, showcase local knowledge and build lasting community ties.
Halloween isn't just about costumes, candy and spooky decorations. It also offers a chance to meet neighbors, showcase local knowledge and build connections that can last long after the pumpkins disappear.
Nextdoor's annual Treat Map is back for its 14th year, giving residents a way to find participating homes, Halloween events and neighborhood businesses. And for real estate professionals, it's an opportunity to do something a little different with their local marketing.
The interactive map helps users discover decorated homes, trick-or-treating locations and nearby festivities. Filters also help families find homes offering non-food treats for children with allergies or goodies for four-legged friends.
Maya Kosoff, Nextdoor's communications manager, told Inman the holiday offers agents a chance to become their neighborhood's go-to source for Halloween fun.
“Halloween is such a neighborly, community-based holiday, and I think it’s a really great opportunity for a real estate agent to really be their neighborhood Halloween concierge,” she said.
And that doesn't require a big marketing budget.
Some simple ways to join the fun include:
- Create a neighborhood Halloween guide featuring decorated streets, trick-or-treating spots and family-friendly events.
- Partner with a local bakery, coffee shop or other business to host a fall gathering or costume celebration.
- Organize a pumpkin-decorating contest, neighborhood party or other seasonal activity and promote it on Nextdoor.
- Share favorite local businesses and attractions that make the community a fun place to live.
Agents can create a free Nextdoor business account to add events, according to Inman.
The appeal goes beyond Halloween. A helpful neighborhood guide can introduce an agent to residents who aren't actively thinking about buying or selling but may remember that connection later.
Kosoff encouraged agents to keep that momentum going with holiday lights guides, toy drives, neighborhood cleanups and other seasonal activities throughout the year.
The idea is to become a familiar, helpful presence in the community without turning every interaction into a sales pitch.
After all, the best neighborhood connections don't have to disappear when the Halloween decorations come down.
