CFPB Website Helps At-Risk Homeowners and Renters
More homeowners are heading toward default even though they may have forbearance or other options. CFPB is encouraging lenders to share the info with clients.
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) released a suite of resources created to help homeowners who are difficulty making monthly mortgage payments as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
The suite of tools, Mortgage and housing assistance during the coronavirus national emergency, offers a range of guides, from information about forbearance options to homeownership counseling. The American Financial Services Association is encouraging its members to share the information with their clients.
In addition to homeowners, the site offers help for renters impacted by the pandemic.
Topics covered on the website include:
- Understanding mortgage basics
- Finding a housing counselor
- CARES Act mortgage forbearance: What you need to know
- Protections for renters
- Avoiding scams and bad actors
The site also offers information and recommendations for credit help and, for some respondents, information on lawyers and possibly free legal help.
