Buyers Embracing Evolving Trends

A growing number of homebuyers are opting for gold plumbing and light fixtures. Other sought-after features include polished concrete floors and smart home systems.

TAMPA, Fla. – While most homebuyers still demand modern lines and finishes, more of them are looking for warmer tones like beige and cream, though white cabinets remain popular.

Douglas Miller, president of Taylor Morrison's Tampa division, says, "While white cabinets are still popular, more buyers are pairing them with a warmer-toned countertop. Homebuyers are now opting more for gold plumbing and light fixtures."

Mark Russell of Russell & Russell Construction in Palm Harbor said polished concrete floors, large-format tiles and minimalistic features are in high demand.

"A trend going forward these days is that the baseboards and casings in the homes are flush with the drywall, so it looks very modern," he added.

Other features that have been requested include walls trimmed in wood or with textures like waves or water droplets, smart home systems that can be controlled remotely, and glass stair rails.

Taylor Morrison's Esplanade communities' homes are also pre-plumbed for outdoor kitchens, and throughout the community, there are dog parks, gyms, on-site massage therapists and lap pools.

Drapes are making a comeback, but some homebuyers are looking for something a little more automated like Aura Illuminated Shades that have built-in lighting that can make an overcast day look like a bright afternoon.

In terms of hardwood flooring, many homebuyers are looking toward lighter colors, and many are looking for ways to increase organized storage space whether that's in the closet, the pantry or in a workspace.
