Bold Colors, Textures Define Fall Design Trends
Designers say homeowners are embracing jewel tones, layered textures and personal touches – ideas that can also inspire seasonal home staging.
NEW YORK — Houzz's 2025 Fall Design Trends Report shows homeowners are leaning into bold, personal choices that move beyond the neutral palettes of past years.
Designers say jewel tones, wallpaper, statement ceilings, and playful patterns are being used as storytelling tools that reflect individual style.
"Bold color is not about being loud for the sake of it, but about creating a mood that reflects the homeowner," said Katie Cunningham of Light and Dwell.
Mitchell Parker, a Houzz home design expert, added, "We're also noticing that layered textures, including boucle, grasscloth, zillige tile, plaster, fluting and handcrafted details, are quite popular.
Layered textures can add three things: warmth, depth and subtle dimension, allowing homeowners to create rich, lived-in, inviting spaces with personality."
At the same time, dramatic countertops and backsplashes are becoming kitchen centerpieces. Wallpaper continues its revival, wrapping entire rooms and even ceilings, and concealed features like panel-ready cabinetry and hidden appliances are helping keep spaces sleek and modern.
To bring in a seasonal feel, designers recommend small shifts such as rust-colored throws, cozy textiles, warm lighting or fall-toned table settings.
Susan Klimala of TKS Design Group noted that even a single accent, like a ceramic vase or muted candle, can change the mood of a space.
For many homeowners, the goal is a balance between personal style and everyday comfort, making it possible to bring in autumn's character without a full redesign.
