Realtor® Sue Vasquez: Always Learning, Always Leading
OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — After nearly three decades in corporate management with AT&T, Sue Vasquez thought she was ready for retirement. But just two weeks in, the silence got to her. “I was going stir crazy,” she says with a laugh. “I realized very quickly I needed something to do.”
That something turned out to be a second career in real estate. What began as a way to stay active post-retirement quickly became a passion. “A lot of people I knew were getting into real estate, and I thought, ‘Why not?’” she recalls. “Now, I look back and wish I’d started 30 years earlier.”
Today, Vasquez is a Realtor® with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Results Realty, serving the Kissimmee–St. Cloud area. With a focus on residential real estate and a strong customer service ethic rooted in her corporate background, she has become a trusted voice in her market and a steady leader in her community. “I love what I do,” she says. “And more importantly, I love the people.”
Ask her what sets her apart; she’ll tell you it’s education and professionalism. “You’re never too old to learn, and in this business, things change constantly,” she says. That mindset led her to earn her Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) designation and, more recently, the Board Certified Professional endorsement from Florida Realtors®. “That endorsement was time-consuming but so worth it,” she says. “It shows that you really know your stuff and care enough to prove it.”
Her passion for professionalism is also evident in her association and volunteer work. Vasquez currently serves on the board of directors for the Osceola County Association of Realtors®, as well as the Guardian ad Litem program, which advocates for foster children. She also volunteers regularly with Hope Partnership, Meals on Wheels, and Habitat for Humanity and is active on the Realtor® Cares Committee. “Being visible in the community matters,” she says. “People need to see that we’re here to help, not just sell homes.”
Her real estate superpower? People skills. “I can talk to anybody,” she says with a smile. “I try to make people feel comfortable and be open and honest about what I do, what I’ve accomplished, and how I can help them.” One of her favorite tools is her name tag. “I wear it everywhere. I’ve had people ask if I work at the store I’m in, but it starts a conversation, and that’s what matters.”
Even when deals don’t close, Vasquez keeps relationships at the center. She recalls one client, referred by a lender, who backed out of three contracts before the truth surfaced: The buyer wasn’t qualified. “It was frustrating, but I stayed transparent with everyone involved,” she says. “In the end, I kept my reputation and relationships intact, and that’s what matters most.”
As the industry adjusts to increased scrutiny and pressure to demonstrate value, Vasquez believes her years of experience, designations, and lifelong learning mindset offer a clear advantage. “We’re all here to serve buyers and sellers. But more than anything, we need to serve each other,” she says. “We all have the same goal. Let’s work together to reach it.”
