Fruit-Themed Décor Trending in Home Design

Home decor is embracing playful, produce-inspired designs as a nod to nature, sustainability and nostalgia, driven by trends and wellness culture.

NEW YORK – Home decor and apparel is increasingly embracing nature, particularly fruits and vegetables. Interior designer and stylist Jonny Carmack says the trend is about fun escapism and "a cause for conversation and celebration."

Some designers indicate that these fruits and vegetables don't have to be confined to the kitchen but become decorative connections to sustainability and nature throughout the home. Rachel Hardage Barrett, Country Living magazine's editor-in-chief, adds, "This gravitation toward produce motifs intersects with spikes in interest around gardening, wellness, and antiques."

Hardage notes that "Tomato Girl Summer" became a viral trend with red and various styles of tomatoes that resembled summer days, but cabbages and lettuce were common motifs in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Now, TikTok posts and social media are driving the fruity decor trends with everything from a lemon-shaped stool to a cabbageware-inspired collection. Lamp shades and tablecloths have berry baskets and carrot bunches, while cushions have fruit and vegetable themes. Playful decorations also have supersaturated colors and shapes, bordering on cartoonish in some cases. Los Angeles-based design editor and author Courtney Porter adds, "There's an emphasis on sustainable materials and youthfulness with this trend as well. People are nostalgic for natural abundance."
