Realtors Rally for Key 2026 Housing Policies

Great American Realtors Days brings members to Tallahassee to spotlight housing, insurance and tax issues they want lawmakers to prioritize in the 2026 session.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — When Realtors® from across the state gather in the state Capitol for Great American Realtors Days (GARD) in January, they’ll deliver a focused message to lawmakers: continue to strengthen housing options, monitor the effectiveness of ongoing insurance reforms and protect property rights in the 2026 session.

GARD, from Jan. 20-22, will bring Florida Realtors® members to Tallahassee for meetings, briefings and visits with lawmakers to discuss the policies shaping Florida’s housing market. It’s a chance to elevate housing, tax, insurance and other concerns that are top of mind for buyers and sellers.

Some of the Florida Realtors legislative priorities for the 2026 session include:

  • Promoting increased access to accessory dwelling units (ADUs)

SB 48 would expand the availability of accessory dwelling units throughout Florida. These small in-law–style homes can add flexible, affordable housing without altering neighborhood character.

  • Boosting affordable homeownership for essential workers

The Hometown Heroes Housing Program needs continued funding and expansion so essential workers like nurses, firefighters, teachers and law enforcement officers can access zero-interest down-payment help.

  • Easing the property-tax burden

Efforts to lower property taxes must balance homeowner relief with the need to maintain essential local services.

  • Protecting property insurance stability

Continuing recent insurance reforms is key to creating a more stable, predictable market for buyers and homeowners.

  • Safeguarding the rights of property owners

Making sure that property owners continue to be treated fairly and remain protected from unnecessary regulations.
