Realtor® Gonzalo Mejia: A Global Visionary Rooted in Local Passion

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — When Gonzalo Mejia stepped onto a Jacksonville stage in costume for a lip-sync battle supporting the American Lung Association, the crowd may not have known they were cheering on one of the city’s most dedicated real estate professionals. But for Mejia, combining community involvement, fun, and philanthropy comes naturally – just like helping families and investors find their footing through real estate.

Mejia’s path began in financial analysis for a real estate investor. That analytical foundation led him to pursue licensure and eventually grow into his current role: broker associate with Watson Realty Corp and team leader of the Dream Home Team. Based in Jacksonville, Mejia now leads a multilingual, four-person team known for its global clientele and broad market expertise, ranging from first-time buyers to luxury and investment properties.

But for Mejia, real estate is about far more than transactions.

“What drives me is wealth building,” he says. “I’ve done it myself. I own investment properties – a primary and a second home. I’ve seen how it changes people’s lives.”

Mejia’s passion extends deeply into helping minority communities navigate real estate confidently. Creating experiences is central to his mission, as is empowering customers through information. Rather than simply telling people he has experience, Mejia demonstrates it – equipping clients with insights that lead to better decisions and a sense of peace.

“People don’t know what they don’t know,” he explains. “One of my favorite moments is when a [customer] says, ‘I never thought of that.’ That’s when I know I’m adding value.”

Mejia’s influence also extends to local, state, and national Realtor leadership. He’s a past president of the MLS board and currently serves as a director on his local board. At the state level, he has chaired numerous committees for Florida Realtors and is a longtime director. Nationally, he is the 2024 Chair of the NAR Diversity Committee and has completed leadership academies at all three levels – a notable achievement.

Globally, Mejia has seen a sharp rise in interest in Jacksonville from South American investors and Canadians, drawn by the city’s affordability, short-term rental friendliness, and absence of restrictive county-wide regulations. A knack for connection bolsters his global expertise.

“My superpower? Making people feel welcome,” he says. “Before there’s a business relationship, there’s a personal one. That’s where trust starts.”

With shifting industry norms and an emphasis on the value of buyer agents, Mejia is proud to hold the Board-Certified Professional endorsement from Florida Realtors. As a member of the task force that helped create the certification, he views it as essential in elevating the profession.

“Buyers work with multiple agents if they believe we’re interchangeable,” he notes. “Being a Florida Realtors’ Board Certified Professional is a way to show that I’m not only involved, but that I take excellence seriously. It’s how I show I’m the real deal.”
