NAR Releases FAQs on MLS Changes
NAR’s new FAQs explain how local MLSs can apply the 18 handbook updates. In Florida, non-members have long had MLS access.
ORLANDO, Fla. – The National Association of Realtors® approved 18 updates to its MLS Handbook last week that emphasize local decision-making, modernize administrative and operational policies and remove outdated enforcement practices.
In response to ongoing questions about what the revisions mean for the industry and members, NAR published an FAQ that outlines how local Realtors® associations and MLSs can adopt and interpret the updated policies.
As a reminder, non-members in Florida have had access to the MLS. NAR's national MLS policy is now more closely aligned with how Florida licensees access the MLS.
Among the key take-aways in the FAQ:
- MLSs have full discretion over whether or not to require participants to be association members.
- Since the mid-1990s there has not been a national NAR requirement for association membership to participate in an MLS
- The repeal/amendments of the policies will take effect on Jan. 1, 2026, and be reflected in the next published edition of the MLS Handbook.
