Staying Visible When Buyers Use ChatGPT

AI tools like ChatGPT are changing how buyers search for homes. Agents should keep profiles current and share conversational, local posts to stay part of the search.

NEW YORK — ChatGPT and other AI platforms are changing the way buyers are searching for homes. AI allows users to find homes within specific parameters – price, location, number of rooms – without using a search engine or internet browser.

Real estate agents need to learn to "speak AI" to ensure their listings show up in these kinds of conversational searches. The first step is to research to determine who AI recommends as the top real estate agent in the city.

Agents should also refresh their profiles on Google Business, Yelp, and other media websites to ensure the details are consistent. The pages should be updated regularly, with responses to reviews that are positive and appropriate. These refreshed profiles will ensure an agent's online reputation is legitimate and complete, showing AI that the agent is active in the market.

Agents who share posts written in natural, conversational language that highlight their local market knowledge help search engines recognize them as trusted and reliable neighborhood experts.

Agents also should ensure their name appears near useful phrases, such as "first-time buyers" in a certain city. Demonstrate expertise consistently. Agents also should post about real clients and local stories, maintaining the human connection.

“When you write for people, you also write for the machines that serve them. Buying or selling a home is personal. People want someone they can trust, and AI just makes it easier for them to find information faster,” Broker Holly Brink said in Inman. “As soon as buyers begin their ChatGPT real estate search, it’s not just about whether you’ll get leads. It’s about whether you’ll even show up.”
